New for 2007 -

Fright Nights - scary hayride and flashlight maze

Girl Scout day

Take a hay ride around the farm and stop at the secret oasis for a tire swing ride or find the bridge to cross to the other side.  Hop back on the hay ride to see what nature has to offer.  Last year we had a bee hive, an owl that loved to cross our path and we watched the deer watching us!  You never know what nature might offer, we might even have some cows out!!

Get lost and found again in our Corn Maze.  I made the mistake of telling my husband to make it difficult.  Well, I haven't made it through without getting lost yet.  But I have a few weeks till opening and I will have it mastered by then.  See if you can find your way through the corn and make it out the exit.  We can even time you if you have a competitive streak!

The Straw Maze  is great for the youngsters.  It is rectangle in shape and only about 20x40.  It only goes two bales high so the little ones can see you and more importantly you can see them.  They have a great time finding the secret hiding places and pretty soon they have it mastered and love to run through it again and again.  Great time for you to sit a spell and catch your breath!

Especially for the little ones, we created a SoyBean Maze.  It is large is size and has a bit of corn planted within it in one small area to add to the adventure, while still keeping is secure and fun for the little ones.  It is not even connected to the large corn maze to ensure our little ones stay safe and can see you while having fun.  It is really a bunch of paths and while they find their way, you can lag behind on a leisurely walk and still see their heads bobbing through the beans.

Visit our family pets at the Petting Zoo.  We have a few rabbits, a few goats, including a new pygmy baby, a spoiled heifer (girl cow to help you out) named Georgie and any other orphans we pick up along the way.  Some of them have quite a story.  Georgie's mother prolapsed while giving birth and when the vet came out to stitch her up, she went berserk.  She was a new mother and wasn't handling things well.  She stepped on Georgie and broke her front leg and sadly enough, Mama didn't make it.  My brother bottle fed Georgie and she had free run of the barn lot with not a fence in site yet, she never strayed.  When the herd came up after Georgie was weaned, we were sure she would join them.  Turns out Georgie had decided she wasn't a cow, she was a person.  To this day she doesn't like other cows, won't eat with them or anything.  She is now a very large, spoiled little girl who throws 700 pound temper tantrums.  She is quite the entertainer when she doesn't get her way.  Of course there is Pumpkin and Oreo who are two pygmy goats and I am there third mother.  They kept getting passed around as they were a bit annoying with there habit of yelling at you day and night and eating flowers.  They have settled in quite nicely at the farm and seem to be very happy with all their new friends.  I think they were just lonely.  The story of the animals continues, but you can get the rest of the story at the farm!

The Barnyard Obstacle Course is a result of watching our five children have fun with junk (you know a parents junk is a child's treasure) we had laying around for parts etc.  We put together some rear farm tractor tires, a culvert, fence posts with ropes weaved in them and more to create a fun and relatively easy obstacle course.  It is more fun to watch the parents try to navigate their way through then the kids sometimes.  Kids really are more agile then us old folks.

A country friend of ours built these for us and we are eternally grateful.  The Barrel Train Rides have been a huge hit.  They are very simple, plastic barrels with a hole cut for a seat, a steering wheel and a couple of tires, hitched together behind a lawnmower.  The kids love to take the ride off through the corn and tend to even sing along the way.  Our friend is quite creative and even took some old ride on battery operated jeeps etc and recycled them into great pull behind rides as well.  These work great for the little ones as they have seat restraints built in!  Thank you Wes!!
